This installment of Chip's Peculiar Obsessions centers on Carrie Donovan. Carrie is the woman who's name you may not know, but who's face and voice is instantly recognized thanks to her appearances in the campy television ads for Old Navy.   Actually, Carrie is a fashion industry icon. Her big specs, pearls and black cashmere are legendary.  This was the woman who once said, "Everyone has to get dressed, you may as well have fun!" She was deputy editor for Allure, contributing editor at Vogue and for over 20 years, the Style editor at the Sunday New York Times.  A few years ago she was hired by Old Navy to write print ad copy. Topped with a Hirshfield caricature and written in her staccato fashion-speak style the ads proved to be very popular. Television was a natural next step, and so at  the age of  70 Carrie began a new career as a star of the small screen, romping around with Morgan Fairchild, Eartha Kitt, Joan Collins and of course Magic the dog.  Carrie is as amused as anyone else about her new found fame, loving every minute of it, and so am I!
